FREELANCE WRITER
I graduated from college with honors and then went right into grad school. There I never scored less than an “A-“ on any project and came out with a Masters of Fine Arts in creative writing. After all that, I went 3 years without being able to land a job. My brother, on the other hand, went to law school after finishing college with mediocre grades and then working for 2 years as a security guard. He became a bankruptcy attorney and now makes quite a good living, though he’s always swamped with work and barely ever has any free time. He lives in a high-rise apartment building downtown and drives a new black Mustang and generally never has to worry about paying his bills. I’m the definition of a starving artist. I mean that literally. I think the last time I ate bread that wasn’t stake was sometime two weeks ago. I just barely get by as a freelance writer. I’d like full-time work with a company or the government or somewhere and it doesn’t have to involve writing at all. All I want is a steady job that pays me enough so that I’m comfortable. I don’t need to be rich. I don’t need a fancy car or to live in a condo or anything like that. I just want to be able to get by without worrying.
