HIPSTER NEIGHBORHOOD

Contrary to popular belief, there are no neighborhoods so bad that just walking through them will get you shot at or have people flocking over to mug you.  Most neighborhoods have good and bad parts.  For example, take the Humboldt Park Chicago neighborhood.  It has a large Hispanic population and a high crime rate.  Also, it has a reputation for not being the safest or nicest place to live in the city.  Firstly, it’s in the city and crime rates are always higher in the city than out in the suburbs or the fringes or city limits.  And given how diverse and populated the city of Chicago is, you’re going to see many different kinds of people of various different heritages.  Like anywhere else, some parts of Humboldt are nice and some aren’t.  In fact, Humboldt Park borders Wicker Park and Bucktown, Chicago’s two trendy, hipster neighborhoods.  Does anyone think all this rampant gang violence is spinning over into the sidewalk cafes, independent bookstores, and poetry readings at art galleries?  Wicker Park and Bucktown are two well sought after places to live in the city.  Would they be if the neighborhood next door was a crime-infested pit like some people make Humboldt Park out to be?
