THE RECEPTIONIST
I didn’t think I would like working as a receptionist, but since I got this job at a law firm downtown, I can say it is very interesting. Our waiting room is always full and there is always something going on with people. It seems that most of them have reluctantly decided they need to talk to Jennifer. That girl has become the talk of the town, or the office at least. Since she left her Kansas City bankruptcy practice behind and moved here, she is developing quite a reputation as the attorney to talk to about whether filing bankruptcy will be a good thing to do. Some of the people who come to see her are very quiet and very uncomfortable. I think they are probably embarrassed about their situation. . I try to make them feel more comfortable from the moment they walk in. I always greet them like I was expecting them and glad to see them, whether they have called ahead or decided to take a chance and just come in. I have found that giving a nice smile will usually cause a nice smile to be returned. I also have a secret weapon—Jennifer’s Grandmother’s cookies.
